As regulatory scrutiny of the sports betting sector intensifies, DraftKings, a sportsbook and Daily Fantasy Sports company, has announced a new responsible gambling feature called My Budget Builder.

The tool, which will be rolled out across all DraftKings platforms, enables users to create personal limits and alerts on deposits, wagers, and losses. Users can also limit the number of contests they can enter and their maximum wager. It's a useful tool for one of our best sports betting sites.

The new tool follows the successful rollout of the 2024 My Stat Sheet feature, which allowed customers to track their wagers and has been visited over 20 million times so far. Both represent a significant push by DraftKings to be more proactive about safer gambling.

“It’s intuitive, proactive, and personalized. We want to give players the resources they need to play responsibly while still enjoying the experience,” said Lori Kalani, the Chief Responsible Gaming Officer at DraftKings.

The launch of the new tool also coincides with a growing call from regulators and public health advocates for stricter industry regulations. Operators BetMGM and FanDuel recently teamed up to request research into the impact of problem gambling in the military.

DraftKings and UFC team up on responsible gambling campaign

At the same time as rolling out its new safe gambling tool, DraftKings has also announced a gambling awareness campaign in conjunction with the UFC.

The campaign, featuring an advertisement fronted by Jon Anik, the UFC commentator, will air during high-profile MMA events this summer. It will start on July 6 at the UFC 316 ceremonial weigh-in and be followed by a second version during fight night on July 7.

More broadcasts are planned for UFC 318 on July 19 and social media promotion throughout the year.

DraftKings and UFC already have a strong relationship, having worked together since 2021, when the sportsbook was announced as the UFC’s first official betting partner in North America.

AGA expands responsible gambling resources

The promotion of responsible gambling isn’t just falling on the shoulders of individual betting and casino operators.

The casino sector organization, the American Gaming Association (AGA), has launched a new safe gambling platform, called the Play Smart Consumer Hub.

The platform aims to help customers make informed decisions about gambling. It follows the AGA’s ‘Play Smart from the Start’ campaign and features interactive tools, odds guides, and a responsible gaming quiz. It will also include links to helplines and gambling addiction charities.

“The AGA is committed to making responsible gaming a seamless part of the player experience. Part of the fun of gaming is that everyone plays differently, but no matter how or where you play, staying in control starts with habits that work for you. The Play Smart Consumer Hub provides players with straightforward, actionable tools to help them stay in control and keep gaming fun,” said Bill Miller, AGA President and CEO.
